  • This exhibition is a concentrated presentation of calligraphy and painting works by Mr. Ding Guanjia, following his exhibition at the China National Art Museum in September 2012. More than a hundred landscape and calligraphy works have been exhibited, covering the creative styles and diverse explorations of calligrapher and painter Ding Guanjia from the 1970s to the present.

Ding Guanjia was born in 1937 on Chongming Island at the mouth of the Yangtze River. He graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Nanjing Normal University in 1960 and studied under several art masters such as Fu Baoshi, Lv Sibai, Chen Zhifo, and Qin Xuanfu. He devoted himself to artistic creation for nearly a year and served as the Vice President and Dean of the Zhenjiang Chinese Academy of Painting for 20 years. I am currently the Vice Chairman of the China Calligraphy and Painting Art Committee, a member of the China Artists Association and the China Calligraphy Association, a national first-class artist, and enjoy special government allowances from the State Council. moved to Beijing in 2002.

"Mo Cai Xin Yi" is a highly summarized representation of Ding Guanjia's artistic style and creative philosophy. From the graceful and delicate landscape of Jiangnan to the majestic mountains in the north, his landscape paintings focus on depicting the infinite changes in nature. He values sketching and seeks his own painting language in nature. He pursues the artistic conception of ink and wash, is loyal to nature without replicating it, advocates for nature while sublimating it, thus presenting a variety of verve and diverse atmosphere in his landscape paintings. At the same time, his works are strongly colored, emphasizing the subtle depiction of the dark parts of the picture, and his achievements in creating backlight, space, water shadows, and other aspects are outstanding. The work is quite modern, natural, fresh, and full of vitality. Unlike many Jiangnan painters, Ding Guanjia has boldly explored areas such as aesthetic pursuit, subject selection, and ink painting techniques. His painting language is simple and holistic, and his works have a profound and introverted meaning, strengthening and not being limited to tedious descriptions, giving people a strong visual impact.

Mr. Ding Guanjia's calligraphy was taught by Mr. Luo Guizi, Mr. Lin Sanzhi, Mr. Zhu Jia, and others. The natural fusion of inscriptions, seal script, and cursive script creates a poetic and picturesque atmosphere, creating a state of "having laws but not being able to". He pays attention to the use of the center pen, and in his writing style, he is simple yet elegant, unrestrained yet dignified, with a strong literary atmosphere. Due to the temperament of some works, they are easy to come by and may seem casual, but they have a unique charm.

Few artists of the same era as Mr. Ding Guanjia have achieved such success in both landscape painting and calligraphy art creation, and Ding Guanjia is one of the successful ones.
