The collection work of Guan Shanyue Art Museum mainly revolves around the academic positioning of Guan Shanyue in 20th century Chinese art research and contemporary design art research, while also taking into account the collection of other contemporary art types. Based on these two academic positioning, five collection directions have been determined: the collection of Guan Shanyue's works, Collection of art works from the same era as Guan Shanyue, the collection of Lingnan School art works, the collection of domestic and foreign design art works, and the collection of other contemporary art types. our art museum currently has nearly 3000 collections. Among them, Mr. Guan Shanyue's donation of 813 works is a core component of our art museum's collection, and it is also the most complete and systematic collection of works in our art museum. It includes important works from various periods of Guan's life, such as "The Green Great Wall", "Wild geese flying on the horizon of regions south of the Yangtze River and the north of The Great Wall", "Forest Sea" and other representative works. In addition, the paintings of famous 20th century Chinese painters such as Chen Shuren, Li Kuchan, Li Xiongcai, Song Wenzhi, and Guan Liang are also collected. It is worth noting that since 2006, our art museum has focused on collecting works from renowned contemporary artists both domestically and internationally. Important collections include all works from the 5th Shenzhen International Ink Painting Biennale, graphic design works by renowned German designer Matthias, oil painting works by Chinese German artist Shan Fan, illustration design works by Japanese illustrator Takao Akiyama, Russian oil painting works, and outstanding contemporary young and middle-aged printmakers, among others. Among them,the act of collecting design works is the first time in the country.
The 813 works donated by Mr. Guan Shanyue are the core part of our art museum's collection, covering important representative works of Mr. Guan Shanyue from various historical periods, including landscapes, flowers and birds, characters, and other themes. Among them, works such as "Green Great Wall", "Wild geese flying on the horizon of regions south of the Yangtze River and the north of The Great Wall", and "Forest Sea" are not only important representative works of his artistic career, but also milestone works in the history of Chinese art in the 20th century. As the main representative painter of the Lingnan School of Painting, Guan Shanyue's works can vividly reflect the artistic essence and characteristics of the Lingnan School of Painting. Currently, our art museum has collected more than a thousand works of Guan Shanyue,these collections have become important materials for domestic and foreign scholars to study 20th century Chinese art and Lingnan School of Painting.
The collection of Chinese painting is divided into three parts. In addition to the special collection of Guan Shanyue's works, it also includes the collection of works by Chinese painting masters of Guan Shanyue's time; 2、 Collection of Lingnan School Chinese Painting Works; 3、 Collection of representative works of contemporary outstanding young and middle-aged Chinese painters. This includes important contemporary Chinese painting works such as Huang Junbi's "Autumn forest slanting light", Song Wenzhi's "Mountains and Rivers Long", Huang Zhou's "Korean Dancer", Guan Liang's "Zhong Kui's Inspection", and Cheng Shifa's "Girl".
The oil painting collection is mainly composed of Russian oil paintings, including works by important contemporary Russian oil painters such as Litvinov, Gukasoka, Sakarov, Yelimeyev, and Zkhalov. In addition, there are also representative works of important painters active in the contemporary international art scene, such as Kim Min jung from South Korea, Dan McKen Daning, Anders Mosholm, and German Chinese artist Shan Fan, as well as representative works of important domestic oil painters such as Lin Hongji and Wu Haiying.
Printmaking collection is another characteristic of our art museum's collection work, forming a systematic and complete collection system. our art museum's printmaking collection is combined with exhibition activities, divided into three parts. Firstly, the systematic collection of works by the older generation of printmakers, such as the research and collection of the complete set of printmaking works by the famous printmaker Li Huanmin, and the research and collection of important works of the Sichuan printmaking school; 2、 The systematic collection of representative works of contemporary young and middle-aged printmakers, such as the collection of works from previous "China Youth Printmaker Nomination Exhibition" and "Contemporary Academy Printmaking Exhibition"; 3、 Collection of foreign printmaking works, such as representative works of famous contemporary Japanese printmakers.
Since 2003, with the development of the International Design Art Permanent Exhibition, the collection of design art works has become another focus of our art museum's collection work. our art museum's collection of design and art mainly consists of graphic design works, with a relatively systematic collection of poster design works by German design and art master Holg Matthias and Japanese design and art master Takao Akiyama, as well as excellent works from previous international design exhibition competitions hosted by our art museum.
In addition to several series of systematic collections, our art museum also collects some sculpture works, such as African woodcarving, sculpture works by famous contemporary Chinese sculptors Sui Jianguo, and Fu Zhongwang.
