Lin Fengsu (1939-2017) was an outstanding and far-reaching Chinese painter and art educator in modern Lingnan. His artistic achievements represent starting from the traditional spirit of landscape painting during the period of China's reform and opening up, seeking suitable expressions of modern Chinese painting spirit and modern people's new understanding of landscape painting. At the same time, his flower and bird paintings are also quite distinctive, including the expression of true emotions with interesting brushstrokes, from which one can glimpse the vitality of nature and the spirit of mountains and rivers, which together constitute an important feature of his Chinese painting art.

Creation originally refers to the natural creation, the mutual transformation of all things, and a vibrant nature. The vibrant atmosphere in natural creation is precisely the strong attraction that Lin Fengsu's Chinese painting art brings to us. For him, natural creation is not only an object that needs to be constantly questioned and verified, but also a state of being experienced. He conveys the essential meaning of natural creation through his unique personal aesthetic perception and simple artistic language, and perfectly combines it with traditional brushwork, folk colors, and classical poetic imagery.

    Tao Yuanming wrote in his poem, "In such things the true meaning of life lies,I'm about to explain, but explanation it defies." This is precisely Lin Fengsu's understanding and pursuit of the artistic conception of Chinese painting.

    This exhibition attempts to present the overall appearance of Lin Fengsu's Chinese painting through four sections: "Clear the Mind, and Create the Realm," "Poetic Home," "Wonderful Draw Artistic Inspiration from Within," and "carefree and get fun," by combining his works with different themes and creating relevant drafts, sketches, videos, and real-life scenes. By sorting out the painter's works on different themes, especially continuously refining the same theme, the transformation process from creation to the source of the heart is reproduced, gradually sublimating from the truth in the eyes, the truth in the heart, to the truth in the painting. This constitutes Lin Fengsu's continuous pursuit of the vitality and true meaning of creation, and it is also the starting point for us to explore the artistic world of Lin Fengsu.

    Mr. Lin Fengsu used to be my teaching teacher, and during his lifetime, he also paid special attention to the development of Shenzhen culture. He had a willingness to donate his exquisite works to Shenzhen. Now, his wife and children have expressed their desire to fulfill his wishes. Here, I express my highest respect for Mr. Lin Fengsu and his family's selfless dedication!

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Mr. Lin Fengsu's birth, we are holding a commemorative exhibition for him at the Guan Shanyue Art Museum. This is not only a tribute to Mr. Lin Fengsu, but also a continuous deepening and expansion of the academic topic of "Guan Shanyue and 20th Century Chinese Art Research" in our museum.
