Ms. Zhang Xiangyi is one of the well-known modern ink painters in South Korea. Her works are based on traditional Korean themes, blending Eastern ink painting techniques with basic colors symbolizing the elements of the Eastern universe, making them both dynamic and rich in the gorgeous style of traditional painting, while also containing the aesthetic elements that modern painting should have.

As a unique language of expression in Eastern art, ink painting has a long history and cultural roots, especially in East Asian countries where its regional cultural cohesion is highlighted due to the cultural tradition of "the same culture and the same kind" and the geographical location of "a strip of water". At the same time, it also presents its own unique national sentiment and aesthetic taste. The ink painting traditions of China and South Korea have emerged through continuous communication and collision in the aforementioned cultural context, forming an indispensable part of East Asian art.

Since the 20th century, the entire East Asian region, including China and South Korea, has faced strong impacts from Western culture on Eastern art and local cultural traditions. In the era of globalization, ink painting, as the most unique expression language and creative method in East Asian art, has become a topic of common concern for Asian artists in terms of inheritance and innovation.

The exhibition showcases the works created by Ms. Zhang Xiangyi from the 1990s to the present day. These works convey the peaceful and tranquil Eastern ideas, reflect the artist's artistic thoughts and personal emotions, contain her thoughts on the world, and also largely respond to the above topic. How to inherit one's own culture and develop traditional art in the process of change, her works are undoubtedly representative and inspiring.
