Wu Haicheng, born in Shunde, Guangdong in 1946, graduated from Panyu Normal School in Guangdong in 1966 and embarked on self-taught Chinese painting. His works have been selected for numerous national and provincial art exhibitions, winning numerous awards. Representative works include "Green Sea and Silver Dragon," "Zhujiang Hydropower," "Lunar New Year's Eve," "Midday," "Hometown," and more. Over the past four decades, his traditional Chinese paintings have been exhibited in France, Germany, Japan, the United States, Malaysia, Morocco, as well as Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and various regions and institutions within China, including the National Art Museum of China, Shandong, Liaoning, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Hunan, Guangxi, and more. A vast number of his works have been published and promoted in over 50 newspapers and magazines, such as "Fine Arts," "Books and Paintings," "Art Gallery," "Fine Arts Panorama," "National Painter," "Painting Circle," "Chinese Calligraphy and Painting," "Fine Arts Newspaper," "People's Daily," "Yangcheng Evening News," Hong Kong's "Wen Hui Bao," "Asian Art," and more than 60 anthologies and catalogues. They have also been featured in numerous radio and television specials. In recent years, more than ten albums of his works have been published by publishers like Lingnan Fine Arts Publishing House, Tianjin Yangliuqing Painting Studio, Tianjin Fine Arts Publishing House, Central Academy of Fine Arts Press, China Bookstore Publishing House, Jilin Fine Arts Publishing House, including "Wu Haicheng's Selected Paintings," "Colorful Harvest Collection," "Selected Works of Wu Haicheng," "Taihang Mountains Sketching Works by Wu Haicheng, Cai Changping, and Guo Ziliang," "Selected Chinese Paintings of Wu Haicheng," "Selected Landscape Works of Wu Haicheng," "Taihang Mountains Sketching Collection by Wu Haicheng and Luo Yaoqiang," "Oriental Centennial Fine Arts: Wu Haicheng's Works Collection," "Searching for Dreams in Hometown," "Approaching the Painter: Wu Haicheng," and more. Many of his works have been collected by institutions and collectors both domestically and internationally. In recent years, "Majestic Mountains and Endless Waters" was auctioned off at the Spring Auction of Sotheby's Hong Kong for 338,000 yuan, setting a personal auction record.
With 50 years of teaching experience, Wu Haicheng first introduced printmaking instruction and creation into middle school art education in Shunde in 1982. Over the past two decades, he has guided students to create over a thousand printmaking pieces of various types. Many of these student works have been selected for international and national children's art exhibitions, winning awards, including Long Weiji's "Green Bush Households," which won the international gold medal and was the only work selected by the State Education Commission for inclusion in "Chinese Middle School Education" and sent to the United Nations for the 41st UNESCO conference. More than 50 student works have been selected by the state and province for exhibition in over ten countries. Over ten student works have been selected for provincial adult art exhibitions. Additionally, during his spare time over two decades, he has trained over 200 qualified new students for higher art academies, achieving three "zero" breakthroughs in Shunde's art education. In 1994, he was successively awarded the titles of Model Worker of Guangdong Province and Senior Teacher in Middle Schools, enjoying special government allowances.
