Lingnan Painting Academy is a gathering base for Lingnan painting masters, a training base for Lingnan painting talents, a base for Lingnan cultural dissemination and radiation, and a trading base for Lingnan painting works. It is a new type of painting academy. Within less than half a year of its opening, it welcomed the exhibition of works by Lingnan painting master Guan Shanyue. It can be said that it is an honor for the painting academy and also a blessing for the people of Dongguan!
Mr. Guan Shanyue is a well-known representative figure of the Lingnan School of Painting. If one of the main theories of the Lingnan School of Painting is to oppose inheriting predecessors and building cars in isolation, advocating facing life and learning from nature. So Guan Shanyue's artistic practice throughout her life has always adhered to this purpose; He used his own works to realize the ideas of Mr. Gao Jianfu, the founder of the painting school, and made significant progress with the changes of the times. Mr. Guan Shanyue has a common saying: "If I don't move, I won't draw.". This simple and simple language contains profound artistic philosophy. The so-called "movement" refers to going into life and nature. Leaving life and nature, artistic creation has become "water without a source" and "cooking without rice.". It is precisely because of the persistent "movement" that Guan Shanyue has drawn rich and diverse creative nutrients and themes from her life for over half a century.
This exhibition showcases over 40 treasures from the Guan Shan Yue Art Museum, most of which are sketches by Mr. Guan Shan Yue and related landscape creations. Among them, there are sketches from Sichuan, Guizhou, Kang, Yunnan, Gansu, and Shaanxi provinces during the Anti Japanese War, as well as works depicting the mountains and rivers of the motherland after the founding of the People's Republic of China. From these works, it can be seen that painters care about nature through sketching, thus honing their excellent skills in depicting the ever-changing natural landscape. Guan Shanyue proved through his lifelong artistic practice that "sketching" not only gives his works a transcendent and vivid taste, but also benefits the enrichment and development of the language of Chinese painting strokes and ink.
I hope that this exhibition at Lingnan Academy can bring Dongguan people and art professionals closer to the master once again, and by appreciating the master's art works, we can comprehensively understand the master's artistic process and style.
