Shenzhen has gone through 38 years, transforming from a small town with a population of 20000 to a modern international metropolis, becoming a miracle of the world.

The Guan Shanyue Art Museum and the Shenzhen Professional Photography Association jointly host the "Shenzhen Memory" Old Photo Collection Exhibition. The exhibition takes the photography phenomenon in the development process of Shenzhen as a research sample, explores these phenomena and the development of photography, and conducts in-depth, objective, and more local academic research and elaboration on the cultural energy and historical value hidden behind them. This is a presentation based on the academic standpoint of photography, and also a pursuit of the historical and cultural origins of Shenzhen photography. The exhibition will explore the history and current culture of contemporary photography in Shenzhen, with a clear focus on immigrant culture.

The development of Shenzhen has its uniqueness and irreplicability. With a historical, social, and humanistic attitude, Shenzhen photographers have witnessed a rapidly developing Shenzhen and left precious images. Through the expression of images and literature review, present the development trajectory of Shenzhen in the process of urbanization, and compile a visual archive that grows together with the city.

Since the 1980s, Shenzhen photographers have faced the urban perspective that surges with wealth fantasy, cultural fantasy, and passionate immigrant life. Their numerous documentary photography works have profound humanistic connotations and strong cultural interpretive power. On the one hand, they have defined the contemporaneity and urban cultural value of a historical time and space, and on the other hand, they have revealed the inherent relationship between photography and culture. On the other hand, corresponding to the characteristics, ideological reality, and theoretical basis of contemporary photography, while emphasizing the perseverance of photographers, it also presents their continuous questioning of life itself.
