  • The Guizhou Plateau is located in the southwest of China, with beautiful scenery like spring all year round. It is home to the world-renowned Huangguoshu Waterfall, the summer resort and the cool capital of China, as well as the revolutionary site of the Zunyi Conference. There are multiple brother ethnic groups such as the Han, Miao, Dong, and Buyi, living here with unique and simple folk customs, preserving more primitive and ancient beauty. The culture here is vastly different from that of the Central Plains and coastal areas. Contemporary artists living on this ancient land have found their own artistic coordinates and created a "unique contemporary".

Guizhou artists had a significant influence throughout the country in the early 1980s and were referred to as the "Guizhou Art Phenomenon" by the Chinese art community and media. In the process of contemporary art reconstruction, Guizhou artists have established their own historical significance through the deconstruction and reorganization of European and American modernism, Chinese traditional culture, and Southwest indigenous folk art. They have obvious individual rebellious characteristics. Compared with mainstream domestic creative systems and so-called contemporary art standard patterns, Guizhou's art still continues to pursue unique aesthetic pursuits that are free from various ideological trends to this day.

Since its opening in 2005, the Guiyang Art Museum has been focusing on the main academic research direction of "Guizhou Modern and Contemporary Visual Art Research" and has conducted a lot of practical work on this topic. The nomination exhibition launched this time is only a representative group of young and middle-aged artists in the three major art genres of traditional Chinese painting, oil painting, and printmaking, as well as calligraphy art, among the Guizhou art community. Due to various limitations, although they are not all Guizhou artists, they can see the whole picture at first glance. We hope to open a window for Shenzhen citizens to understand the appearance of Guizhou art, promote cultural exchange and cooperation between the two regions, and sincerely ask Pengcheng artists to point their fingers.

As the largest and most well-equipped professional art museum in the southwest region, Guiyang Art Museum has established a friendly inter museum cooperation relationship with Shenzhen Guanshanyue Art Museum through this exhibition. As a result, the southwest mainland has built an art bridge with the southeast coast. We hope that regional factors and cultural differences will become the reasons for our communication and interaction, and in the future, this cooperation and exchange relationship will bear more fruits.
