  • Dawn Introduction

    Liming, originally named Li Guoan, is from Hejiao Village, Nanzhuang Town, Chancheng District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province. Born in Macau in 1929. In 1940, he studied under Gao Jianfu, one of the founders of the Lingnan School of Painting, and was a proud successor who personally taught him in his later years. In 1953, he moved to Hong Kong and became a Hong Kong citizen. He passed away in 2023.

    Liming has been engaged in art for 83 years and has created a large number of Chinese painting works. He is skilled in flowers and birds, skilled in mountains and waters, good at writing characters, and also works as a writer. He has a wide range of themes, especially famous for his ability to write about peacocks. His works have been selected for the 9th, 10th, and 11th National Art Exhibitions. He has held solo and joint exhibitions in Guangzhou, Hong Kong, the United States, Russia, Australia, South Korea, Japan and other places multiple times.

    The main publications include "Dawn Painting Collection", "Dawn Colored Peacock", "Dawn New Song Academy Flower and Bird Painting Art", "Dawn Lingnan School Landscape".

    Liming has served as an honorary advisor to the Hong Kong Museum of Art, a member of the Urban Council's Hong Kong Art Promotion Advisory Group, the president of the Hong Kong Spring Tide Painting Association, the president of the Lingnan Painting Society, a resident artist at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, an honorary curator at the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government Cultural and Historical Research Institute, a perpetual honorary president of the Macau Collectors Association, an advisor to the Gao Jianfu Memorial Hall, the chairman of the China Central Academy of Painting and Calligraphy, the executive director of the West Lake International Artists Association, and the honorary president of the Guangzhou Meishe Calligraphy and Painting Academy.

    In 1996, Leon Lai founded the "Hong Kong Spring Tide Painting Society" in Hong Kong and served as its president, inheriting the legacy of the "Spring Tide Society" established by Gao Jianfu in Guangzhou in 1947. He was committed to developing and promoting research on traditional Chinese painting art, inheriting the artistic style and direction of the Lingnan School of Painting, and promoting member exchange activities. For more than 20 years, the Hong Kong Spring Tide Painting Association has participated in member days, played a role in mutual encouragement, worked together, and played an important role in promoting the development of Lingnan School art in Hong Kong and around the world.
