To this day, the development of digital technology has dissolved the basic function of photography as a "documentary" image, making it a more realistic, introspective way of narrating social and artistic concepts, and an important component of contemporary art. In international contemporary art exhibitions, visual works are exhibited together with painting, sculpture, and installation art. The connotation of photography goes far beyond its original scope of "recording" and "viewing", becoming an important form of contemporary art. In China, various photography exhibitions and academic activities have also sparked an unprecedented trend in the creation, research, and exhibition of contemporary image art in a non mainstream and cutting-edge manner. More and more photographers are entering the sight of international curators and collectors, and more and more art galleries and galleries are also turning their attention to contemporary photography art.
Photography was also an important cultural phenomenon in Shenzhen. In the mid-1980s, with the influx of various Western cultures and arts, Shenzhen, as the forefront of reform and opening up, attracted a large number of outstanding photography talents from across the country, making Shenzhen a pioneer in professional photography and maintaining a sharp perspective and open attitude. However, to truly study and showcase the contemporary nature of photography and its involvement in sociology from an academic perspective, there is still a need for qualitative breakthroughs in Shenzhen. The original intention of the "Estimate The Distance By The Eye- Contemporary Photography 8-Person Exhibition" was to attempt to interpret the multiple possibilities of photography as a subjective narrative method from the perspective of contemporary art.
The "Estimate the distance by the eye · Contemporary Photography 8-Person Exhibition" selected eight photographers - Du Yingnan, Han Lei, Li Lang, Sun Hongbing, Tie Ying, Wang Ningde, Ya Niu, and Yan Shi - who were born in the late 1960s and early 1970s. They are active in the professional photography field both domestically and internationally with distinct personal styles. Their sharp and sharp shots touch the edges and crevices of contemporary urban life. These works with a youthful and sensitive temperament demonstrate the free thinking and diverse interests of the new generation of artists, with a strong introspective color and personality elements.
In recent years, the Guan Shanyue Art Museum has paid attention to the new trends in the development of contemporary photography art, and has systematically displayed and collected various forms of photography art works. Thank you to the 8 artists for their professional spirit, which provided good support for the exhibition and enabled it to be realized in a short period of time. We also hope to leverage the long-term accumulated resources and energy of Shenzhen photography to build a platform for research and exhibition of contemporary image art.
