This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Guan Shanyue Art Museum and the 105th anniversary of Guan Shanyue's birth. To commemorate these milestones, we have invited Yang Xiaoneng to curate the special exhibition, "Guan Shanyue and His Era," which explores the landscape art of Guan Shanyue and the development trajectory of Chinese landscape painting in the 20th century through the lens of representative, stylistically diverse, and accomplished landscape painters from three distinct periods of the century: Transformation - The Path of Pioneers, Controversy - The Ode to the Times, and Divergence - The Return to Art.
The exhibition will be held from June 27th to July 21st, 2017, in the main hall on the 1st floor and the exhibition hall on the 2nd floor of Guan Shanyue Art Museum. It will showcase 36 works by Guan Shanyue, alongside masterpieces and seminal early works by other prominent artists including 8 by Qi Baishi, 5 by Huang Binhong, 3 by Gao Jianfu, 4 by Lin Fengmian, 2 by Pan Tianshou, 4 by Fu Baoshi, 5 by Li Keran, 3 by Shi Lu, 3 by Wu Guanzhong, and 6 by Liu Guosong. Among them are renowned works such as Qi Baishi's "Borrowed Mountain Album," Gao Jianfu's "Flames of the Eastern Battlefield," and Pan Tianshou's "Lotus Leaves Reaching the Sky," as well as early representative works by some artists that are being exhibited publicly for the first time.
