This year marks the beginning of the 13th Five-Year Plan, as well as the inaugural year for Shenzhen's Propaganda and Culture System to fully implement the "Shenzhen Cultural Innovation and Development 2020 (Implementation Plan)." Under the correct leadership of the Municipal Propaganda Department and the specific guidance of the Party Leadership Group of the Shenzhen Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the 7th Presidium of the Shenzhen Artists Association has formulated the "Utilizing Artistic Projects as Levers to Forge Shenzhen's Renowned Artistic Brands – Shenzhen Artists Association's Five-Year Development Plan," serving as a guiding principle for the association's work over the next five years. The plan focuses on the "Shenzhen Artistic Project" encompassing creation, research, exchange, talent cultivation, and incentive mechanisms. It strives to create and promote a batch of Shenzhen's original artworks with nationally top-tier standards within five years, nurture several influential artistic brands both domestically and internationally, accelerate the formation of a "Shenzhen School" in art research and a "Shenzhen Painting School" in artistic creation, establish an artistic exchange platform connecting China with the world, usher in a new era of Shenzhen's cultural and artistic endeavors, and contribute to building a harmonious, efficient, and nationally innovative city.
As one of China's earliest established Special Economic Zones, Shenzhen has, over three decades, created a miracle in the history of urbanization and modernization, providing a robust foundation for the development of Shenzhen's culture. The extraordinary growth of Shenzhen's art scene is no less impressive than its economic development, with a large cohort of vibrant young artists who are at the prime of their creative abilities. They possess agile minds, strong creativity, and an ability to grasp the themes of the times, capturing new trends, developments, and changes. Skilled at integrating formal and content innovation through the application of new technologies, materials, and means, they drive the development of artistic creation in pursuit of novelty and change. To encourage them to express the great social practices of the people, reflect the themes and progress of the times through art, create thought-provoking, faith-filled, resilient, moral, heartwarming, and popular artworks, and inspire them to go "to the people," be centered on the people, delve deep into life, and take root among the people, thereby producing more outstanding artworks with distinctive themes, fresh ideas, strong appeal, and enduring value, the Shenzhen Artists Association initiated the "Shenzhen Local Outstanding Young Artists Promotion Project" in 2011. This project has been listed as a vital component of the Shenzhen Federation of Literary and Art Circles' annual artist series of academic activities and serves as a crucial platform within the Shenzhen Artists Association's five-year development plan for nurturing outstanding young artists. With support from the Municipal Propaganda and Cultural Development Special Fund, this platform hosts solo exhibitions, academic seminars, and publishes collections of works for Shenzhen's outstanding young artists, showcasing their creative achievements and artistic practices. To date, the project has successfully launched three seasons, introducing 24 outstanding local young painters from Shenzhen and received favorable social responses.
To ensure the success of this year's "Shenzhen Local Outstanding Young Artists Promotion Project," at the Shenzhen Artists Association's 7th Presidium's second meeting in 2016, the attending presidium members, with a sense of responsibility, engaged in rigorous discussions and followed strict procedures, ultimately selecting Guo Qingwen, Ke Mingze, Chen Xiaofeng, Zhong Qinyangzi, Chen Junfeng, He Liangfeng, Xue Yang, and Li Zhuangzhi as the eight young artists for the 2016 "Shenzhen Local Outstanding Young Artists Promotion Project (Phase IV)." To guarantee the smooth progress of the selection process, Vice Chairman Liang Yu of the Federation of Literary and Art Circles attached great importance and personally attended the meeting to provide specific guidance.
The works of the young artists selected this year encompass various art forms such as oil painting, traditional Chinese painting, watercolor, printmaking, and more, showcasing the artistic concepts and spiritual worlds of Shenzhen's young painters from diverse perspectives. These works embody both the traditional heritage and the exploration of contemporary artistic spirit expression, featuring novel themes, diverse forms, unique styles, and distinct personalities. They collectively represent and embody the creative state and demeanor of Shenzhen's young art creation team, reflecting the creative consciousness of these artists in terms of their diverse expressions, heritage, and innovation, as well as demonstrating distinct characteristics of the times. Of course, the artistic styles of these outstanding young painters are still in the process of formation and continuous improvement. We eagerly anticipate their further growth and advancement through their own efforts and the promotion of the "Promotion Project for Shenzhen's Outstanding Local Young Artists"!
