Exhibition Name: "The Second China Design Exhibition and Public Art Special Exhibition"

The Second China Design Exhibition and Public Art Special Exhibition (formerly known as the Second China Design Exhibition) is currently being held in various activity venues in Shenzhen, and we look forward to meeting the audience on January 9th. Three years ago, the first China Design Exhibition was themed "Era · Creation", highlighting the close connection between contemporary Chinese design and social change and development in China, and showcasing the fruitful achievements of contemporary Chinese design. The Second China Design Exhibition and Public Art Special Exhibition, with the theme of "Design · Responsibility", proposed the social and cultural responsibilities that design and public art should have in the context of China's socio-economic transition into a new normal. 

This exhibition mainly includes 5 important contents: Design Case Exhibition, Design Literature Exhibition, Public Art Case Exhibition, Public Art Literature Exhibition, and Forum.

1. Design Case Exhibition

Location: Shenzhen Guan Shanyue Art Museum

Time: January 9th to March 13th, 2016

This exhibition is the core content and theme exhibition of the Second China Design Exhibition and Public Art Special Exhibition. The exhibition brings together nearly 200 cases and over 300 works from four aspects: social innovation, quality of life, traditional regeneration, and ecological harmony. Through case studies, it presents various categories of Chinese design, including graphic design, product design, spatial design, cross-border comprehensive design, architectural design, and clothing design. The exhibition systematically showcases the thinking and practice of designers in the process of deep social transformation in China. Integrating design art into the overall framework of cultural development, emphasizing the social responsibility of design, and paying attention to people's livelihood issues.

2. Design Literature Exhibition

Location: Shenzhen Industrial Exhibition Hall

Time: January 9th to March 13th, 2016

It is known as the "Exhibition of Modern Chinese Design Literature". Taking the transformation and development of modern design in China since the 35 years of reform and opening up as the main framework, extending to the background of world modern design history and the main theme of modern design in 20th century China; Taking the key events/figures/literature that have influenced the development of Chinese design since the reform and opening up as the main exhibition object, this article interprets the trajectory of contemporary Chinese design development. The exhibition is divided into three sections: 1. Main Line of Modern Chinese Design History: Against the background of world design history and the overall development of Chinese design history, it focuses on showcasing the main outlines and key events of modern design development from the founding of the People's Republic of China to the period of reform and opening up. 2. Figures in the History of Modern Chinese Design: The basic overview and main deeds of representative figures who have made outstanding contributions to modern Chinese design during the above historical periods. 3. Examples of events in the history of modern Chinese design: typical cases and relevant empirical data presented in various forms such as literature, physical objects, models, videos, etc. in the process of modern Chinese design history.

3. Public Art Case Exhibition

Location: Shenzhen EPC Art Center

Time: January 9th to March 13th, 2016

The exhibition mainly focuses on the relationship between public art and national image, urban construction, humanistic care, public life, etc., presenting more than 20 excellent cases of public art nationwide in the past decade. The form of works is not limited to static public art such as sculptures, murals, installations, or landscapes, but also includes dynamic composite public art such as public art programs and public art festivals. While showcasing the rich forms of public art in China today, it explores various forms of cross-border public art and the diversified possibilities of public art intervention in social culture, urban space, and public life. It also guides the development of Chinese public art in the future with a certain aesthetic style and value orientation.

4. Public Art Literature Exhibition

Location: Hua · Art Museum in Shenzhen

Time: January 9th to March 13th, 2016

Through six dimensions including case studies, policies and regulations, forums and conferences, higher education, academic papers, and organizational structures, we will comprehensively showcase the 65 year history of China's public art development since the founding of the People's Republic of China. At the same time, we will also focus on the development relationship between public art and Beijing and Shenzhen, presenting the development trajectory, current situation, achievements, and reflection of public art in China.

5. Forum

The Second China Design Exhibition and Public Art Theme Exhibition Forum is divided into three parts: the main forum, sub forums, and public art theme forums:

1) Occurrence and Voice - Academic Forum of China Public Art Special Exhibition

Location: Academic Lecture Hall on the Second Floor of Guan Shanyue Art Museum

Time: January 8th, 2016 (14:00-18:00)

The forum, with the theme of "occurrence and voice", invites experts and scholars active in the field of public art both domestically and internationally to give keynote speeches and engage in free discussions, thereby building an exchange platform for dialogue between Chinese and Western public art and exploring the localization path of China's public art development.

2) Design · Responsibility: Theme Forum of the 2nd China Design Exhibition and Public Art Special Exhibition

Location: Academic Lecture Hall on the Second Floor of Guan Shanyue Art Museum

Time: January 9th, 2016 (14:00-18:00)

Starting from the theme of the grand exhibition "Design · Responsibility", the main forum discusses the responsibility and cultural thinking of Chinese design, gathering curators, representatives in the field of public art, design education, cultural scholars, representatives of well-known enterprises, influential designers in the industry, representatives of design industry associations, and representatives of design media. Representatives from all walks of life will interpret the theme from their respective fields and perspectives, explore how the cultural influence of design concepts can be applied to various aspects of Chinese social life, establish a Chinese style life value and humanistic care, and ultimately promote the cultural enhancement and industrial upgrading of Chinese design.

3) The Second China Design Exhibition and Public Art Special Exhibition sub forum

Location: Academic Lecture Hall on the Second Floor of Guan Shanyue Art Museum

Time: January 10th, 2016 (9:00-12:00, 14:00-18:00)

The sub forum is recommended by curators from various sectors to discuss the sub themes of "quality of life, social innovation, traditional regeneration, and ecological harmony" by influential designers in the industry who have deep thoughts on design responsibility, advocating design for the people. This is not only the responsibility of contemporary designers, but also the common ethics of the Chinese design community.
