As one of the major exhibitions meticulously planned and launched by Shenzhen Guan Shanyue Art Museum this year, "A Long Wind Spanning Tens of Thousands of Miles: A Special Exhibition on Guan Shanyue and Poetic Landscape Paintings Since Modern Times" focuses its exhibition perspective on the core aesthetic features of traditional Chinese art. Jointly organized by Shenzhen Guan Shanyue Art Museum and the Li Bai Memorial Hall in Jiangyou City, with the support of Shenzhen Museum, Meishan Sansu Temple Museum, Chengdu Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum, and other professional cultural and historical institutions, the exhibition is committed to integrating and revitalizing collections, creating a cultural project with both breadth and depth. Coinciding with the 27th anniversary of the museum's establishment, the exhibition will be open to the public on the second floor of the museum's Guan Shanyue Special Exhibition Hall.
The project "A Long Wind Spanning Tens of Thousands of Miles: A Special Exhibition on Guan Shanyue and Poetic Landscape Paintings Since Modern Times" has been selected for the 2024 National Art Museum Collection Exhibition Season by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Through a grand historical perspective, the project explores the art of poetry and painting. The exhibition features 28 landscape poetic paintings by Guan Shanyue and Lin Fengsu (with 9 pieces exhibited for the first time), complemented by representative works of artists such as Zhu Yunming, Wang Shi, Wu Ling from the Ming Dynasty; Jiang Chenying, Zha Fang from the Qing Dynasty; and modern and contemporary artists like Zhang Daqian, Jiang Zhaohe, Yu Youren, Fu Baoshi, Feng Zikai, Huang Yongyu, Li Xiongcai, Qian Songyan, among others. The exhibits include one first-grade cultural relic, seven second-grade cultural relics, and eighteen third-grade cultural relics. The exhibition is structured into chapters, including a Prelude: The Rise, Part I: Eulogies in Brushwork, Part II: Continuation of the Cultural Vein, Part III: Profound Artistic Realms, Part IV: Odes to Homeland, and an Epilogue: Derivation and Inheritance of Artistic Spirit, forming a panel-based narrative structure.
The exhibition showcases 55 calligraphy and painting works from the Ming Dynasty to modern times, including not only the museum's own collections but also many notable pieces from the Li Bai Memorial Hall in Jiangyou City, Shenzhen Museum, Meishan Sansu Temple Museum, Chengdu Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum, and other outstanding museums in China. The venue, Shenzhen Guan Shanyue Art Museum, has always been aware since its inception that the life of art lies in innovation, and the vitality of culture lies in exchange. This project represents another concrete practice of cultural and artistic exchange and mutual recognition between museums and art galleries in Shenzhen, a city in Lingnan, and multiple cities in Sichuan Province.
Running from June 25 to November 3, 2024, spanning four months and divided into two phases with a change of exhibition during the period, "The Long Wind Blows Tens of Thousands of Miles" will allow visitors to view different works at different stages of the exhibition. Notably, to provide visitors with the best viewing experience, the museum's exhibition team has meticulously crafted the exhibition space, using "garden" as the environment and "cloud stone" as the form, creating an interactive and experiential display area.
"A Long Wind Spanning Tens of Thousands of Miles" is an exhibition that pays homage to the brilliant starry sky of traditional Chinese aesthetic thoughts. It is also a poetic "feast" presented on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of Shenzhen Guan Shanyue Art Museum. The curatorial team hopes that through the artistic conception created by these precious poems, calligraphy, and paintings, visitors can explore the core characteristics of the Chinese artistic spirit, appreciate the beauty emphasized in traditional Chinese art – "Tranquility enables perception of all movements; emptiness embraces myriad realms." feel the essence of Chinese excellent traditional culture, strengthen historical and cultural confidence, and find inspiration and vitality from promoting outstanding traditional culture.
