  • Since its establishment, the Wucheng Wuxiang Photography Annual Exhibition has been boasting about documentary photography that reflects human culture, aiming to establish a chronicle style visual document for Shenzhen, the city where we reside, and for the people living there. However, good photography is different from ordinary archives. Good photography and good photography exhibitions not only reflect, refract, and record reality, but also have the sharpness of observation and the warmth of emotions. That is to say, a good photography work or a good film exhibition not only presents the viewer with a real existence, but also carries with it thinking and inspires the viewer to think. As the planner of the Wucheng Wuxiang Photography Annual Exhibition, we feel that the participating photographers have resonated with us and are moving forward together with us.

At this year's exhibition, a total of 13 groups of works were selected. The vast majority of authors exhibit a clear sense of subjectivity, with varying degrees of ideological content. They reflect on the development of cities and also reflect on their losses; Praising the beauty of nature, but also mourning the loss of the environment; Embracing hope, one cannot help but feel lost; Joy mixed with sadness, detachment mixed with attachment, confusion mixed with persistence, revealing profound contemplation and complex emotions towards society and life. Perhaps it is not a coincidence that out of the 13 works, 6 naturally formed pairwise comparisons or contrasts: "New Special Zone Pioneering Bull" and "Qianhai Fisherman", both of which coincidentally filmed the Qianhai theme, one focusing on the future, one focusing on the past, one full of longing, and one relying on old feelings. The combination of two different focuses improved our understanding of Qianhai development. "The Pain of Huaqiangbei" and "The Chaozhou Merchant of Huaqiangbei" are filmed at the same location. The former takes a panoramic view, while the latter takes close-up shots of characters, forming a complementary effect. "Unfinished to be continued" and "Faraway", although not filmed on the same theme, have an emotional resonance, strongly expressing the common sense of wandering and lingering spiritual melancholy among the Shenzhen crowd. Thirteen works, with different or similar perspectives and emotions, allow us to examine the real city and the real life in the city.
