  • As a senior artist active in the Jiangsu region, Mr. Shang Lianbi's artistic career has continued from the founding of the People's Republic of China to the beginning of this century. Exploring and studying his art and life is beneficial for Shenzhen citizens to further understand the unique value and significance of Chinese art in the mid to late 20th century. This art exhibition showcases over 80 landscape and freehand flower and bird works by the author throughout his life.

Mr. Shang Lianbi (1928-2003), born in Fengxian County, Jiangsu Province, graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Nanjing Normal University in 1954. He had close relationships with various masters such as Fu Baoshi, Chen Zhifo, Lv Sibai, Qin Xuanfu, and Yang Jianhou. As one of the first graduating students from art colleges in New China, Mr. Shang has solid basic skills and is versatile in various fields. In his early years, he mainly engaged in oil painting and printmaking, attracting widespread attention with his works that were rich in the atmosphere of the times, simple and dignified. In the 1980s, he took the lead of the times and re explored the connotation and spirit of traditional Chinese painting art in the context of modern culture, creating a pattern where freehand brushwork of flowers and birds and landscape painting were on par.

"Guan Shanyue and the Research and Exhibition of Chinese Art in the Middle and Late 20th Century" has been the academic research direction and exhibition brand that Guan Shanyue Art Museum has long adhered to. The attention and research on artists who were active in the same era as Guan Shanyue in the 20th century can not only provide the Guan Shanyue Art Museum with historical depth and contemporary depth in its research on Guan Shanyue, but also provide a broader perspective for the study of Chinese art in the later 20th century.
