  • Ink painting has a history of over 2000 years in China, and is not only an important part of the Chinese cultural chain, but also an important symbol of Chinese culture. From the May Fourth Movement to the New Era, due to the tremendous impact of Western culture, many artists, starting from different pursuits, have transformed ink painting using Western models of realistic painting, expressive painting, abstract painting, and surreal painting. The fact is sufficient to indicate that although this approach has greatly expanded the content and form of ink painting, there is a danger for many ink artists to break away from traditional ink painting and move towards Westernization. It is gratifying that in recent years, some ink and wash artists have begun to explore new forms of art, emphasizing the close connection between ink and wash and contemporary culture; On the other hand, it emphasizes the close inheritance relationship with traditional ink painting, thus creating a contemporary ink painting that is both different from the past and Western painting, which is extremely rare. In order to showcase the academic achievements of contemporary Chinese ink painting, during the "Chinese Culture Year" in Germany in 2012, we invited renowned curators Mr. Ackermann and Mr. Lu Hong to plan this contemporary Chinese ink painting art exhibition, inviting the most important and representative Chinese artists to participate. The exhibition was exhibited at the Hamburg Art Museum in Germany from August 16 to September 16, 2012, and caused a significant response in Germany. This time, we are presenting a presentation exhibition for the audience in Shenzhen, hoping to open a window for Chinese audiences to understand the development status of China's emerging ink painting, and to understand how contemporary Chinese ink painting art maintains its cultural continuity, uniqueness, and self-esteem principles under the impact of Western culture.

Shenzhen Guanshanyue Art Museum is one of the key art museums in China. Since its establishment, we have been committed to the research of 20th century Chinese art and have continuously hosted a series of exhibitions related to contemporary ink and wash art. For us, it is our hope to effectively maintain the uniqueness and national identity of Chinese culture through these efforts.
