The "Jiangshan Leaders and the People - Photography Exhibition of Yang Yuanxing, Lv Houmin, and Zhu Xianmin" was grandly held at the Guanshan Yue Art Museum, showcasing over 100 works by three famous older generation photographers. The exhibition showcases the magnificent and vigorous mountains and rivers of our motherland. On the other hand, as a chapter of leaders and people coexisting with Jiangshan, it commemorates the political achievements of Mao Zedong, a great figure of his generation; The exhibition also pays attention to ordinary people, and the works also embody the brilliance of human nature.
The benevolent enjoy the mountains and the wise enjoy the waters, which is a great realm of wandering clouds and gathering and dispersing, as if one is in the sky and forgets their destination. The "Han Shi Wai Zhuan" provides a vivid explanation of "benevolent people enjoy mountains": "Hushan is the one who admires all things... The clouds guide the wind from between heaven and earth, heaven and earth are formed, and the country is peaceful. Therefore, this benevolent person enjoys mountains." Laozi's explanation of "wise people enjoy water" in the "Tao Te Ching" is "the highest goodness in water, water is good for all things and does not compete...". It can be seen that in the minds of Chinese people, landscape scenery is no longer a simple natural landscape. The rich philosophy hidden in it has risen to the height of self-cultivation and become a manifestation of chest, spirit, pursuit, and personal charm.
The realm of photography by photographer Yang Yuanxing is just like what the great painter Huang Binhong once said: "Strolling through mountains and rivers, one must have both the movement of the sky to clear the sky and the tranquility of the old monk's sew and mend." This means that we must have an unparalleled passion for the scenery in front of us, run around tirelessly, observe, and search, and then calmly think, recognize the scenery in front of us, and deeply understand these landscapes.
The white clouds look back and merge, and the green and amiable look is boundless. The ups and downs of mountains and rivers tug at the photographer's emotions. They cannot do without the expression of life. They are not empty forms, but emotional carriers with rich content. Yang Yuanxing prepared with a hopeful gaze for the various colors that roamed around his body, admiring nature with a spirit of complacency. With a thousand miles in sight, he grasped the rhythm of the four seasons of yin and yang opening and closing, as well as the ups and downs. The landscape of our country's mountains and waters, its spatial awareness and expression lie in the endless space between heaven and earth. Life not only reflects here, but also sighs here. The so-called scenery, in the photographer's lens, is a concrete spirit and a lively source of life beneath tranquility.
Mr. Lv Houmin, former chairman of the China Photographers Association and famous photographer, worked full-time as a photojournalist around Mao Zedong in the 1960s. During this golden period of his life, the photographer used his camera to capture the touching demeanor of the great Mao Zedong in political and diplomatic scenes, his strictness and kindness in front of children, and his inseparable deep affection with the general public, leaving behind many precious historical scenes. Lv Houmin said, "Mao Zedong was approachable and amiable, and his care and consideration for the staff around him and my work will be unforgettable to me for a lifetime."
Another photography master, Mr. Zhu Xianmin, is a photographer with a special status in the history of contemporary Chinese photography. His uniqueness lies in the fact that among the photographers born in the 1940s, there were few like him who, as early as the early 1970s, consciously or unintentionally paid attention to the daily lives of the people, and recorded their lives with a simple, natural, and loyal attitude. He was one of his peers who could clearly and accurately express the roots and plot of life through photography. His uniqueness lies in that, regardless of the changes in his living situation and social status, he still maintains a civilian posture and has a distinct personal perspective in photography.
We should cherish these pictures. Human civilization is constantly inheriting and carrying forward the glorious history of our predecessors. As a Chinese, whether it is the mountains and rivers of our motherland or the leaders who created history, they are the roots of our nation. Through these precious photography works, we can truly feel the timeless mountains and rivers of our motherland, touch the unforgettable history, and see the humanity and glory in ordinary life!
