After its first exhibition at the China National Art Museum, the Contemporary Printmaking Art Exhibition in the United States will tour the Guanshan Moon Art Museum in Shenzhen on November 16, 2010. At that time, it will bring nearly 90 different styles of printmaking works from 50 artists from the eight most powerful printmaking workshops in the United States to the citizens of Shenzhen. These representative works comprehensively reflect the overall appearance of printmaking creation in the East, Central, and West of the United States, and are a comprehensive visual communication of contemporary printmaking in the United States.
This exhibition focuses on the development of American printmaking over the past 30 years. From the works, it can be seen that a large number of famous American artists have explored and innovated in printmaking. Their printmaking works showcase their distinct artistic styles and concepts, and also demonstrate the diversity and uniqueness of American printmaking in expanding the "printing" language and production. Since the rise of American abstract expressionism in the 1950s, contemporary art in the United States has begun to influence the world. There is a strong interactive relationship between contemporary printmaking and contemporary art in the United States, and James is not absent from this exhibition. James Rosenquist, Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Kara Walker, Francesco Clemente, Chuck Close and Kenneth Representative works of prominent figures in contemporary art history, such as Kenneth Noland.
What is unique is that the works of this exhibition come from printmaking workshops in multiple cities in the United States. This special institution provides important support for artists to achieve their creative intentions and is a partner in researching and completing works together with artists. This art production method that combines creative ideas and production techniques is an important feature of modern printmaking. Printmaking workshops enable many artists to use printmaking forms to realize their ideas, and printmaking workshops also form different brands due to their characteristics in craftsmanship, production techniques, and collection characteristics. The printmaking workshops in the United States have rich experience and good reputation. It is of timely significance to introduce this experience to the emerging printmaking workshops in China through this exhibition.
This exhibition is jointly planned by Fan Dian, the director of the National Art Museum of China, Ma Shulin, the deputy director, and Professor Chen Xiaowen from the Alfred School of Art and Design in the United States. It is the second stop of the exhibition tour in China after its first exhibition at the National Art Museum of China. After the exhibition, it will be held from December 28, 2010 to January 23, 2011 at the Zhejiang Art Museum, and from March 11 to April 7, 2011 at the Shanghai Art Museum, expanding the scope of communication and interaction between contemporary American printmaking and the local art community and the public in China.
