  • Qingdao, with a century long history of construction, is a beautiful and pleasant city nestled in the mountains and by the sea. Generations of art workers have gained infinite creative passion and artistic inspiration from the profound historical and cultural accumulation and the majestic sea, working hard and tirelessly for the development of the city's art industry. In order to preserve this historical memory, the Qingdao Art Museum has planned and launched the "Haiyun Qingyin -2010 Qingdao Chinese Painting Masters Invitation Exhibition", which systematically showcases the contemporary Chinese painting masters' style and creative achievements in Qingdao.

The sea represents vastness and mystery, tranquility and subtlety, giving people endless imagination. Artists climb mountains and observe the sea, experiencing the distant and plain meaning in the interaction between people and objects. This is precisely in line with the "endless charm, transparent subtlety" of Chinese painting and the beauty of tranquility and ethereal harmony. Contemporary Chinese painting in Qingdao is infused with infinite vitality and a romantic and poetic ocean atmosphere, amidst the blending of sea sentiment, ink charm, national tradition, and modern spirit. These works not only embody the profound Chinese flavor, but also showcase the sublimation and accumulation of local cultural experience, emitting a unique artistic charm.

The wave of reform and opening up in the past 30 years has greatly promoted the development process of "Chinese painting". It has become a consensus among Chinese painters to pay attention to the issue of traditional brushwork and explore the spirit of traditional brushwork and its new possibilities of expression. This invitation exhibition brings together 38 influential artists from the old, middle, and young generations in the contemporary Chinese painting scene in Qingdao. These artists have intervened in contemporary culture from different perspectives and in different ways. At the same time, they adhere to the representation and expression of Chinese ink culture, and care about the innovation and fate of this traditional art form in contemporary times. Among the exhibited works, there are not only vast and moist landscapes that have entered the past and created new landscapes, but also characters with concise and concise brushstrokes that combine form and spirit, as well as concise and elegant flowers and birds with flying ink colors. Artists, with their unique understanding and knowledge of brush and ink, showcase their talents in ink and wash, displaying a distinct artistic personality. While adhering to the traditional Chinese painting, they create a new spirit of freehand brushwork with contemporary brush and ink expressions that reflect the face of the times.

An exhibition cannot fully showcase the development and changes of Chinese painting in Qingdao, nor can it encompass all the trends and styles of a certain period. However, it can build a platform for mutual communication and discussion, filling some gaps and deficiencies in the artistic process, and becoming a true specimen of witnessing the progress of urban civilization. This is also the value of this exhibition.
