Modern buildings worldwide consume about 40% of the world's energy and emit about 33% of global greenhouse gases. If we do not change the production mode of modern buildings formed since the Industrial Revolution and promote the transformation of modern buildings to green and low-carbon buildings, then, based on the current global society's comprehensive "leap" towards industrialization and urbanization, we will face carbon emissions more than four times higher than the current level in 50 years. This not only puts modern buildings and related industrial models into a vicious cycle, but also leads to a devastating global disaster.
The core value of green and low-carbon buildings lies in energy conservation and emission reduction. Promoting the transformation of modern buildings towards green and low-carbon buildings will be the most practical and efficient way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Although China has a vast territory and a vast territory, due to its large population, the per capita effective living area is scarce. In addition, the country's strict control over the red line of 1.8 billion acres of arable land, as well as the urbanization of domestic industrial clusters and the southeast coastal migration of population, we must gradually reach a consensus: in the process of population migration to cities, southeast, and coastal areas, we must create and build low-carbon residential buildings with green, environmentally friendly, land saving, material saving, energy-saving, water-saving, comfortable, healthy, and harmonious characteristics on limited land and space.
In view of this, with the aim of driving architectural practice through design and stimulating public attention through competitions, the "Star Source Real Estate · Green and Low Carbon Building International Design Competition" was officially launched in December 2009, sponsored by the Propaganda Department of the Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee and the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Culture, hosted by the Shenzhen Guanshan Yue Art Museum, and co organized by the Shenzhen Illustration Association. As of April 2010, the organizing committee of the competition had received over 900 entries (nearly 2700 pieces), and after fair and impartial evaluation by domestic and foreign green building experts and judges, the various awards set for the competition were selected. Now, the organizing committee of the competition has selected over 50 excellent entries (nearly 150) to be exhibited at the Guanshan Yue Art Museum in Shenzhen.
Here, the organizing committee of the competition expresses sincere gratitude and respect to the participants of this competition. It is your great responsibility, rich imagination, and excellent creation that have carefully designed the green and low-carbon building blueprint that bears the responsibility for the Earth's home, enabling us to showcase these blueprints to the world. All of what we are doing together, although the waves are rising now, can only demonstrate their magnificent influence in the future.
