At the beginning of the 20th century, China faced an important turning point from tradition to modernity, and the "revival of ancient learning" became a path sought by a group of patriotic intellectuals to save the country. In 1907, Huang Binhong joined the Society for the Preservation of Traditional Chinese Culture and joined forces with Deng Shi, Huang Jie, and others to co organize the Shenzhou Guoguang Society, publishing classical art literature and beginning his career as a modern cultural figure and artist. Huang Binhong's interactions with Cantonese figures such as Deng Shi were based on the "Chinese Renaissance", using the "revival of ancient studies" as a discourse, each interpreting that "saving the country through art" was Huang Binhong's lifelong pursuit. He consistently published paintings in journals such as "Truth Pictorial" and wrote articles discussing art. He insisted on promoting the spirit of modernism on the basis of traditional brush and ink, and embarked on a path of modern art that surpassed the Xin'an School of Painting. On May 23rd (Saturday), the second issue of "Mirror of Beautiful Reading" will invite Professor Lu Yi, Deputy Research Curator of Zhejiang Provincial Museum, to give a lecture on the topic of "Huang Binhong's Transformation Concept and Artistic Ideal - Around Lingnan Stone and Stone Painting and Calligraphy with Cantonese Friends", discussing Huang Binhong's interactions with Cantonese people in the first half of the 20th century and the artistic ideals reflected in it.
