Dawn has been engaged in art for 83 years, and his works are vast. This exhibition selected 118 paintings by Mr. Liming, created from 1940 to 2018, including works from different periods of his life. It comprehensively showcases Mr. Liming's artistic vision and is a review, analysis, and study of his lifelong creations. At the beginning of the 20th century, Gao Jianfu, Gao Qifeng, and Chen Shuren initiated the New Chinese Painting Movement in Guangzhou, advocating for the integration of Chinese and foreign cultures, the fusion of ancient and modern, and the innovation of Chinese painting. The "Two Highs and One Chen" were regarded as the founders of the Lingnan School of Painting. Since receiving the teachings of Gao Jianfu in the 1940s, Mr. Liming has been shouldering the great responsibility of inheriting the innovative spirit of the Lingnan School of Painting. Under the guidance of his teacher, he pays attention to learning from nature and is diligent in sketching. At the same time, he does not forget to inherit tradition, depicting Song Dynasty courtyard paintings and Song Yuan landscapes. In addition, he has also learned perspective and light and shadow techniques of Western painting, and studied Japanese painting. The diverse learning and training have laid a solid foundation for his painting skills.
Mr. Liming's creative themes are comprehensive. He is skilled in flowers and birds, skilled in landscapes, and good at depicting characters, especially famous for his ability to depict peacocks. His creative styles span a wide range throughout his life. For example, his flower and bird paintings gradually developed from the early courtyard style, which was neat and rigorous, to modern Chinese paintings that were both refined and elegant. In the later stage, he mainly focused on freehand color setting, with a strong emphasis on ink and color, and a prosperous era. The exhibition is titled "Embracing the Past and Present" and summarizes Mr. Liming's art. It presents his different artistic styles in six chapters: "New Song Academy Painting", "Learning from Nature", "Balancing China and Foreign Countries", "Rich Splendor", "Haojiang Painting", and "Self emerging Machine Pivot", to entertain the audience.
This exhibition is one of the "Lingnan Masters Series" at Guan Shanyue Art Museum, with Mr. Chen Junyu, the director, serving as the overall planner, and Mr. Zhu Wanzhang, a specially appointed expert and researcher at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, providing academic support. This exhibition is the first collaboration between our museum and the Hong Kong Spring Tide Painting Association, and has received support from multiple art institutions in Guangdong and Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Palace Museum of Culture in Hong Kong, and the Guangzhou National Version Museum have lent some of their works to our museum. Guangdong and Hong Kong are adjacent in location and share the same culture. Our museum hopes that through this exhibition, we can strengthen artistic exchanges in the Greater Bay Area and jointly promote traditional Chinese culture.
At the same time as the exhibition, cultural and creative products will be launched, and limited daily distribution will be given to on-site audiences on a first come, first served basis; Three seals were made for the audience to clock in at the venue.
