    Selected Speeches

Director of Guanshanyue Art Museum in Shenzhen: Chen Junyu

In the 28 years since its establishment, Guanshan Yue Art Museum has not only cultivated a large number of art museum management talents, but also a large number of theorists and artists. Lu Shan has a non professional background in oil painting. Based on her work experience, Lu Shan has been working in an art museum, accumulating her knowledge and expression of art. Also, due to her work at the art museum, Lu Shan has a very close relationship with senior artists in Shenzhen such as Dong Xiaoming, Liang Quan, Yan Shanchi, and Wang Lixing, and has long been inspired and influenced by them in her creations. In general, her creations and achievements are the result of a long-term reflection on the attitude and significance of art by an art museum staff.

As her friend, I see that Lu Shan regards painting as a non utilitarian individual experience and subjective emotional experience, which is closer to the essence of modern art creation. I think this is very important for Lu Shan's creation. She has quietly opened up her own independent expression space, and I am very happy for her.

Vice President of the Chinese Painting Society, Honorary Chairman of the Shenzhen Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and Honorary President of the Shenzhen Academy of Painting: Dong Xiaoming

Lu Shan's paintings can move people, the key is that she is putting her heart into drawing. Nowadays, many people focus on painting techniques and pursue style, with colorful images but vague connotations. Looking at Lu Shan's paintings is different, the first thing that makes you feel is the inner feelings that the painter wants to confide in you. It seems that all the smooth paths and obstacles in her life, the joys and sorrows of time, the confusion and emotions accumulated in her chest, have been integrated into the painting, and finally condensed into trembling brushstrokes and surging colors, becoming a work presented before us. I think that works that can express one's inner thoughts are good works, and only those who can create such works are true painters. Otherwise, he would just be a painter. For many years, Lu Shan has been tirelessly on the rugged path of becoming a painter, fearless of hardship and daring to climb, achieving the ability to transform her life experience into visual poetry, producing numerous infectious works, and finally breaking through the encirclement to become a true painter.

Director of the Art Theory Committee of the China Artists Association, Director of the China Evaluation Association, and Doctoral Supervisor: Shang Hui

Many people believe that expressive works are easier to reproduce than realistic ones, but in reality, the opposite is true. 80% of concrete works rely on accumulated techniques, while the core of abstract and expressive art lies in whether the artist possesses a poetic soul - this pure creativity, which is increasingly scarce in the era of material abundance, is the most precious characteristic of Lu Shan's works. I chose to curate for her in an attempt to explore artists who have not yet fully emerged through the eyes of critics.

Lu Shan's works are always filled with poetic expressions of spiritual distress: when the sudden rain in Shenzhen knocks on the window frames, when the branches of a foreign land evoke memories of their homeland, these everyday trivialities in the eyes of ordinary people, through her sensitive soul transformation, become artistic carriers that directly point to the essence of life. The ability to elevate individual experience into a universal spiritual picture is an important criterion for judging an artist's talent.

Returning to the level of technique, I originally wanted to examine the flaws in Lu Shan's works, such as whether her brushstrokes were drawn when she was angry. However, if her works were only accidental products of emotional release, it would be impossible to form such a coherent sequence of works. The brilliance of Lu Shan's works also lies in her ability to know when to stop writing, such as the triptych creation "Scattered Shadows Horizontally Diagonal" in the exhibition hall, which appears unfinished on the surface but actually contains a C é zanne style structural consciousness - the linear tension of branches and the composition of color blocks have reached a subtle balance, with more strokes filling up and less strokes losing out. This precise control over the "ending point" of creation far surpasses mechanical techniques. More noteworthy is her creative transformation of the Impressionist color system, where the interweaving of magenta and indigo is not accidental, but rather a thoughtful color construction.

Professor at the School of Arts, Sun Yat sen University, and Visiting Professor at the School of Humanities, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts: Yang Xiaoyan

Lu Shan has a true abode, which is her inner self! That was a strange world, where she had been floating subconsciously for many years. For a long time, she didn't know how to leave this deep dwelling, until one day, with a heavenly impulse, she resolutely picked up her paintbrush and continuously painted on the canvas. She searches for ways to escape through the color blocks and brushstrokes, sometimes excited and sometimes frustrated. Excited, she felt that she had already found this way; Disappointed, when she really tried to run away, she found that the intersection had turned and was not very accessible. However, from the batch of wonderful paintings she presented this time, she strongly proves that after a long period of hesitation, she is now undoubtedly walking on the road to the future. From this batch of paintings, it can be seen that Lu Shan no longer follows the trend and no longer seeks style. She is only herself, through peculiar color contrasts, through whistling subconscious brushstrokes, through infinite immersion.

When I stood in front of her paintings, I felt everything she had given to the world! It's not easy to think about, and it's really interesting.

Curator of Xizang Art Museum: Rabat Ciren

Lu Shan's works, with their profound metaphors and unique artistic style, allow us to appreciate how an artist conveys their inner voice through canvas. Her paintings are not only a visual feast, but also a touching touch to the soul. In Lu Shan's colors and brushwork, we feel the collision between Xizang's culture and modern art. Her works are like the bright stars in the Tibetan Plateau, illuminating the hearts of viewers. Lu Shan's artistic journey is an exploration of her own spiritual world and a profound questioning of the meaning of life, inspiring every viewer to feel the power of art.

Congratulations on the successful completion of Lu Shan's art exhibition! Zaxidele!

Since the launch of the "Chat Plan", more artists have gradually participated. During the exhibition, artist Lu Shan shuttled through the exhibition hall multiple times, providing guidance for on-site audiences and pre arranged groups, sharing stories about life, growth, and self reconciliation behind her creations, and engaging in in-depth communication with the audience. The event received a good response and was dubbed by the media as a "phenomenal solo exhibition of Shenzhen people's healing outlet". Many viewers expressed that they felt emotions and power in Lu Shan's works.

On March 21st, Guan Shanyue Art Museum organized the second art museum night event of 2025- "Exploring the Journey of Self Body and Mind in 'Touching the Heart'". In addition to artist Lu Shan providing on-site guidance for the audience, contemporary art critic Xu Qiaosi was also specially invited to give in-depth explanations of the physical and mental content in the classic knowledge system. Through carefully designed relaxation experiences, urban people were able to free themselves from daily anxiety and "take a break for their body and mind" in the artistic atmosphere of the art museum. In the communication session, the audience participating in the event expressed that this in-depth experience of art and body and mind was very rare, and they enjoyed the relaxation and happiness of "exploring their own physical and mental journey" in the art museum.

This exhibition will be on display until March 30th, and the 'Chat Plan' is still ongoing. We look forward to your participation. We hope to start from exhibitions and make art museums a place of inspiration for art.

    Exhibition evaluation and selection

Shenzhen Academy of Fine Arts Full time Painter (National Second Class Artist): Gu Xiuling

The peaceful coexistence with the outside world did not smooth out the waves in Lu Shan's heart. On the contrary, the various waves in the world were presented in her paintings with a reverse force, in sharp, strong, and even somewhat gloomy abstract forms. This may be because Lu Shan seems to always maintain a profound intuition about the world, and she can still feel the chaos that contemporary people have long lost in their lives. This chaos is easily lost or obscured by contemporary people after accepting rational science. But this chaos, whether in the past or present, has never been far away from us. The splendor and noise of the city seem to hide them invisibly, only occasionally flashing like discordant electrical noise in moments of loneliness. Lu Shan's strong works can tear apart our noisy and illusory illusions, shining into our restless hearts and the chaos.

Associate Researcher of Guanshanyue Art Museum in Shenzhen: Peng Baoyu

The exhibition "Leisure and Wandering - Lu Shan's Spiritual World" in 2022 introduced everyone to Lu Shan as an artist. The "Touching the Heart - Lu Shan's Works Exhibition" in 2025 has given everyone a new understanding of her. These works not only explore more possibilities for Lu Shan's diverse expression and presentation of ideas, but also showcase her inner struggles and confusion, her perception of life, and her fantasy world, while reflecting her "creativity" and "spirit of freedom". She approaches the differences between art disciplines with an inclusive mindset, exploring areas of integration through mutual learning and complementarity. After focusing on oil painting creation, Lu Shan is even more committed to innovating her own unique formal language. The values of modern art abroad, such as emphasizing the purity of art, self-expression, subjectivity, intuition, and subconscious expression, have been absorbed by Lu Shan as part of her artistic factors. At the same time, her artistic creation is deeply rooted in Chinese tradition, drawing nourishment from it and incorporating novel elements to rejuvenate it, in line with contemporary cultural context and aesthetic needs.

Lu Shan is a painter worthy of deep expression.

This is not only because she has left a distinct mark in the perspective of contemporary art in the Bay Area with her unique artistic language, but also because she has always maintained a creative attitude that is nourished by academic ideas and constantly breaks through constraints.

However, those familiar with her may not know that there is another important gene hidden in her spiritual world: her father, Lu Shuyuan, was a pioneer in the field of Chinese ecological literature and art. During the years when her father was sketching the academic map of the "spiritual ecology" in the study, the young girl Lu Shan was immersed in the breathing rhythm of those academic terms. Those profound speculations about the relationship between literature, nature, and human nature, like intangible genes, quietly injected into her artistic bloodline, becoming an inexhaustible source and unique background for her future creations.

Founder and Senior Media Person of "Amelie Focus on Shenzhen": Yin Weiying

I was at the exhibition site on the third floor of Guanshan Yue Art Museum, strolling in space with Lu Shan, listening to her talk about the days of travel, solitude, loss, and loss behind the paintings. It was like following her to relive a person's life. Her time in Xizang, the parks she played in her childhood, the emptiness she faced when her mother left in Hainan, the mountains and skylines she calmly painted, and so on. The tangled balls of yarn, the chaotic and fierce plants, the nightmare scene without windows and exits, behind her loneliness, despair, and contemplation of life and death; She saw the warmth of spring and the blooming of flowers, "seeing the mountains with a single thought", saw the old temple with turbulent clouds, saw the purple mountains at dusk, the long mountains in the distance, the blue streams and mountains, saw the colors dancing, the lines trembling, and saw the quiet blue and colorful pink. Behind all of this, there is a real, vibrant individual at war with life, a hermaphrodite individual - this is Lu Shan.
