- Exhibition Review | Xingcong: Twelve Years of Gongbi Art Ecological Exhibition of Youth Impressions
From July 17th to August 6th, guided by the China Artists Association and Hubei Institute of Fine Arts, hosted by the Guanshanyue Art Museum and the China Gongbi Painting Society in Shenzhen, and co organized by the Shenzhen Gongbi Painting Society and the Shenzhen Youth Artists Association, the "Star Cluster: Twelve Years of Gongbi Art Ecological Exhibition" successfully concluded at the Guanshanyue Art Museum.
Twelve years is not just a unit of time. For the 'youthful imprint', it means continuous encounter, observation, and accumulation. This exhibition takes "gongbi as a method" as the clue, and through the creative practice of 12 young artists, as well as the presentation of manuscripts, notes, reference materials, and daily objects, looks back on the growth of young gongbi art in different experiences and paths.
During the exhibition, the works constantly meet the audience. Whether entering the exhibition hall through the viewing path of "Star Mangka" or stopping at artist guided tours, public education activities, and on-site exchanges, every viewing becomes a new connection to this "star cluster". Although the exhibition has ended, the exploration of how gongbi responds and how art arises from personal experience is still ongoing.
On the afternoon of July 25th at 3 o'clock, the "Xingcong Reception Room - Gongbi as a Method" dialogue activity was held at the exhibition site. This event invites participating artists Huang Ji and Jiang Chaofan to have a live conversation, hosted by exhibition curator He Xiang. Starting from their creative practice, they will share their exploration and thinking on contemporary meticulous art.
During the event, artist Huang Ji explored the development path of contemporary gongbi from his own practice. He believes that contemporary gongbi continues to expand on the basis of tradition, achieving contemporary expression of traditional art through conceptual changes, media extensions, and technological innovations. At the same time, it also expands the thinking of artistic creation on context, function, and expression methods.
Artist Jiang Chaofan further shared the inspiration of Yangming's philosophy of "nothing outside the heart" for artistic creation, and explored the relationship between subjective consciousness, viewing experience, and artistic perception.
Curator He Xiang, starting from the curatorial concept, combined the four viewing roles in the exhibition "Star Mangka" - observer, perceiver, analyst, and planner - to lead participants to switch between different identities and enter the works and exhibition space through multiple paths. At the same time, she encourages the audience to use their own experiences as a starting point, to use themselves as a method, and to express their own feelings and thoughts through artistic practice.
On the afternoon of August 1st at 3 o'clock, the "Body Vegetarian Cuisine" workshop was held at the "Star Cluster" exhibition site.
